Come to the Heart of the North Candidates Picnic

April 21, 2026

Mark your calendars for the Heart of the North Candidates Picnic from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug.8, 2026 at Ojibwa Park on State Highway 70—east of the village of Ojibwa and west of the town of Winter.

Sponsors are the 7th CD and Sawyer County and LCO Democrats. We’re lining up a full slate of Democratic Party candidates for state and federal offices.

As of April 21, keynote speaker Mike Wiggins has confirmed attendance. Wiggins is the former chair and executive director of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Wiggins has since taken on other roles, including serving as the interim site director of the Madeline Island Museum. He is also a respected advocate for indigenous rights and environmental causes.

Candidates who have confirmed attendance include:

  • Sara Rodriguez, Francesca Hong, and Brett Hulsey, who are running for governor;

  • Fred Clark and Ginger Murray, who are running for the 7th CD U.S. House seat;

  • Charly Ray and Gillian Battino, who are running for Wisconsin Senate seats; and

  • Yee Leng Xiong, candidate for state treasurer.

We’ll keep you updated as more candidates respond to our invitations. See the draft flyer and a detailed map below for more details. NOTE: Ignore the map under the “Save the Date” headline on this page.
