Mark your calendars for the Heart of the North Candidates Picnic from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug.8, 2026 at Ojibwa Park on State Highway 70—east of the village of Ojibwa and west of the town of Winter.

Sponsors are the 7th CD and Sawyer County and LCO Democrats. We’re lining up a full slate of Democratic Party candidates for state and federal offices.

Mike Wiggins has confirmed attendance as keynote speaker. The former chair and executive director of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Wiggins is an engaging, inspiring speaker. These days Wiggins is the interim site director of the Madeline Island Museum. He is also a respected advocate for indigenous rights and environmental causes.

Candidates who have confirmed attendance include:

  • Sara Rodriguez and Francesca Hong, who are running for governor;

  • Fred Clark and Ginger Murray, who are running for the 7th CD U.S. House seat;

  • Charly Ray, Gillian Battino, Richard Pulcher, and Jeff Foster, who are running for Wisconsin Senate seats; and

  • Yee Leng Xiong, candidate for state treasurer.

Wisconsin 73rd Assembly Rep. Angela Stroud also has confirmed attendance. Rep. Stroud is a knowledgeable, compelling advocate for progressive policies, including proper funding for public schools.

We’ll keep you updated as more candidates respond to our invitations. See the flyer and a detailed map below for more details. NOTE: Ignore the map under the “Save the Date” headline on this page.

NOTE: Democratic candidate Missy Hughes dropped out of the running for governor on June 22, 2026. She has endorsed Sara Rodriguez in the August 11 primary.
